Unearthed 3

elm, mahogany, and steel
Unearthed 3 came from the same elm tree as Unearthed 2. The tree is still alive, but a storm blew off a large branch that decayed over time. After discovering Unearthed 2, I began to pay closer attention to the scattered branches in the area. The grass had started to grow around them, so they were all partially hidden. This knot was a little farther from the tree than the rest and took me a while to find. The grain around the knot really intrigued me, and it only got better as I worked with the piece. I am fascinated how elm trees form dark red barriers around rotten areas.
