Unearthed
There is an order and beauty in nature, especially in decaying wood. The twisting and gnarled patterns found in the grain and rot are continuously overlooked. My process is one of unearthing, refining, and displaying found wooden pieces in various stages of decay. I keep my touch light to enhance, not to impose on, this natural order. It is essential to me that the viewer experiences the piece itself and not dwell on my alterations. I do not want my audience to be distracted by narratives in the work; instead, I want them to be absorbed in a purely aesthetic experience.
